STREET TALK: Dobney Avenue with Anthony

Welcome to another episode of street talk. Anthony Paul’s my name, and today we’re going to have a look at Dobney Avenue which is in the industrial and commercial district of West Wagga.

Dobney Avenue was named after Thomas Dobney, who settled in Wagga Wagga in 1897. He was a storekeeper in Fitzmaurice Street for many years. Thomas Dobney was actively associated with many public bodies in the town. He was a member of the Base Hospital Board, President of the Chamber of Commerce, committee member of the Murrumbidgee Pastoral and Agricultural Association, Alderman of the Municipal Council for 16 years. And was the Mayor in 1910, 1911.

Dobney Avenue is the hub of the West Wagga industrial area, and is a main access road to many southern suburbs of Wagga.

It’s also the main area for new and used car sales, with Wagga Motors, Jason Nissan and Volvo, Thomas Brothers and Jupiter Motors, with over 100 cars for sale.

The area’s also the home to building supply businesses such as Bunnings, Reece, Dahlsen’s, Sheathers Painting and Wagga Glass and Aluminium.

Dobney Avenue has also, also has a large two storey modern gym and cafe, which offers something for everyone.

Thanks for watching street talk. If you’ve got any information on Dobney Avenue that might assist myself then by all means give me a ring.
