STREET TALK: Churchill Drive with Mikkali

This week we are in Churchill Avenue, come and have a look.

Churchill Avenue in Kooringal was named after Sir Winston Leonard Spencer, who was a famous British statesman and writer.

Following a distinguished army and political career, he became Prime Minister of Great Britain, First Lord of the Treasury and Minister for National Defence in 1940. He was renowned for his leadership qualities, optimism and enthusiasm, particularly throughout the dark days of World War II. He became an inspiration to his people and the armed forces by his speeches which gave great hope to.

The following are a few famous sentences from some of his speeches. With reference to the Air Force personnel in the Battle for Britain. “Never, in the field of human conflict “has so much been owed by so many, to so few.” In a broadcast speech he said, “Let us therefore brace ourselves to our duties “and so bear ourselves that, “if the British Empire and its Commonwealth “last for 1,000 years, men will still say “this was the finest hour.”
